Summer Fun!
July action continues to be good! Consistent weather, mild temps = great bite! Enjoying pretty consistent bite on the larger clear lakes again this week. Deeper weeds and weed edges, and mid lake hard bottom reefs in the 15 to 25 foot depths continue to produce mixed bags of Walleye and Smallmouth Bass for us. My son ( Bernie also ), and I went on a couple scouting missions and found productive locations that panned out well for Mike, Mark and Gregg! Very productive 1/2 day trip produced a beautiful mixed bag of Walleye, Smallmouth Bass and Largemouth Bass. Been a long time since I fished with Mark or Mike, first time with Gregg! Super cool guys that fished hard. Gregg banged his first ever Walleyes and I believe Mike got his PB walleye!
Take the time to learn your electronics and look around until you find fish. When they get into this 15 to 25 foot range you should be able to find pods of fish with your locator before even dropping a line. Simple presentations such as a 1/8 ounce jig plastic or jig/crawler combo and live bait rigs are working well. We are also using drop shot rigs with plastics at times. Moving shallower during low light periods and days with significant wind is also very effective. Still burning rattletraps over the weeds and rock for a good bite. Excellent search bait! Getting "Sloppy in the Slop" is also heating up with frogs in the lily pads getting bit well!
Wishing you success, happiness and hopefully a few nibbles!!
